SCORPIO 2025 - Yann Gerstberger

For the 4th edition of Correspondance Astrale, Yann Gerstberger produced the postcard foreseeing 2025 for Scorpio.

Yann Gerstberger creates vibrant large-scale tapestries with patterns often inspired by Mexican pop culture, as well as imagery taken from art history and the natural world. Gerstberger received a master’s degree from Les Beaux-Arts de Marseille, and moved to Mexico City in 2012. To create his unconventional textile works, he glues cotton fibers from mop heads onto vinyl backings before adding industrial fabrics sourced at local markets. Gerstberger hand-dyes his materials using both natural dyes like cochineal and synthetic pigments to generate a wide range of muted and saturated hues. The amorphous vegetal forms that comprise his wall hangings allude to modernist European and Latin American works, but also suggest a wider history of abstraction that includes street art, handicraft traditions, and pre-Columbian and Islamic works.
